Finger Paints Symmetrical Symphony

Shade
Hey guys!  I'm back with a second flakie from the Finger Paints Kaleidoscope collection today.  Hopefully I'll have all the others for you but that probably won't happen until later this weekend.  Today's flakie is Symmetrical Symphony layered over Finger Paints Black Expressionism and an accent of China Glaze First Mate.  I'm trying to pick a color that I think the flakie will look good over in addition to the black with each mani.  I think I picked well today.  Again this is just one coat of Symmetrical Symphony with topcoat in each picture.

I know it's a lot of pictures again but I really just wanted to show all the different colors.  I hope you all have a great day!

Finger Paints Colorful Dream

Shade
Hey all!  Happy Sunday (or very early Monday depending on where you are).  I'm excited to share today's polish with you.  I purchased the new Finger Paints flakies collection at Sally's the other day.  The Kaleidoscope collection is a brand spanking new collection of five flakies.  These are different than the last flakie collection they did.  The old ones where brighter, more primary type colors.  This collection is softer, more pastel type colors.  I decided to start off with my favorite of the collection, Colorful Dream.  What you see in the pictures is one coat of Colorful Dream layered over FP Black Expressionism (an awesome one coat black) and an accent nail of Sation Miss Emo Shun All.  I have topcoat on in all the pictures.  I just love how changing up the base color can change the whole appearance of the flakes.  I actually prefer is over the dark purple of the Sation.  The flakes laid very flat and were smooth with one layer of topcoat.

I know this is more pictures than normal for me but I wanted to make sure you got a good look at these.  Do you like flakies or are these a pass for you?  I like them because they can instantly change any mani.  If you pick them up I'd love to see what layering combos you come up with.  Feel free to drop your mani pictures by my facebook page.

Until next time...

Orly Pink Flakie Topcoat

Good morning!  Today I have something cool to show you.  Orly has two new flakie topcoats and today I have the Pink Flakie Topcoat for you.  These aren't just your average flakie polishes, they dry matte.  Pretty neat huh?  So this is one coat of Pink Flakie Topcoat over Barielle Tres Chic (from their upcoming fall collection.  I'll have this next week for you).  Tres Chic is a super dark, navy blue cream.  On one had I put my base polish then a layer of the Orly.  This combo didn't want to dry for me so I added a quick dry topcoat.  On the other hand, the one you are seeing today, I put on my base color then quick dry topcoat.  After a bit I put a coat of the Orly on top and it dried super quick.  From now on that's how I'll go about applying this one.

Both of the pictures were in the shade.  It just showed to flakies better.  I wish I was better at taking pictures of my other hand so I could show you the shiny version.  I've tried to take pictures with my left hand before but I just can't seem to get the hang of it.  What do you think?  Do you still like flakies or are you over them?  I thought I was over them but apparently I just needed a break.  Must be time to pull out my Clairvoyant and Twisted and do some manis.

Talk to you soon,

Sara

*I had a few minutes to kill before lunch the other day and stuck my head into a Sally's I don't normally go to.  Bad idea, man.  She had all the new displays up.  5 polishes later I left the store.*

Color Club The Uptown

Hi all!  Today I have Color Club The Uptown for your viewing pleasure.  The Uptown is a purple jelly base with flakies in it.  I'm pretty sure you could get this polish opaque with a few coats but we all know that jellies with flakies can get kinda thick so I decided to layer it.  My base color is Sation Super Nail-tural Powers, a dark purple cream.  All the pictures show one coat of The Uptown over the purple cream with topcoat.

I liked the formula of The Uptown.  It's smooth, tons of flakies in just one coat and they all laid flat.  Now I do think that you could probably get a similar look if you own Nubar 2010 or Essie Shine of the Times and layered them over a purple but I like having it all in one polish.

All the photos were taken in the shade.  All the sun pictures have wicked glare and you can't see anything.  I hope you liked this one.  I'll talk to you again soon.

Sara

*I bought this polish myself with my very own money.  I made money at work and then immediately gave it all to a very lovely woman on the internet in exchange for this polish.*

I'm a Twisted Tart

Ok so I'm not really a twisted tart but my nails are.  Today's mani is Finger Paints Twisted over Zoya Tart.  I have a little confession about the FP.  It's been sitting in my untrieds drawer for over a year.  My sisters gave it to me for Christmas right when it came out and then it just sat there.  I considered selling it a few times when the price was a bit out of control but I just couldn't.  I finally decided it was time to wear it so what you see here today is two coats of Twisted over two coats of Tart.  Twisted is a rainbow flakie polish that went on a little sparse, so it definitely needed two coats.  Tart is the perfect 4th of July blue and was opaque in two coats.

It was overcast the morning I took these pictures so I don't have a sun shot but honestly I think it shows the flakie better like this.  Are you a fan of flakies?  I still can't decide if I love them or am indifferent to them.  Maybe I just haven't found the right color combo.  I own four of the Finger Paints flakies, Nubar 2010 and CN Clairvoyant.  Do you have any layering combos that you've loved that you'd recommend I try out?

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Nails Inc Baker Street & Zoya Maisie

Shade

Hello!  Is everyone having a good afternoon?  I know it's almost fall and a lot of folks are starting to transition to fall colors but here in Phoenix it's still really warm.  Supposed to be 105 or so tomorrow.  I'm still wearing a lot of bright, bright colors.  Today is Nails Inc Baker Street (pretty much the best bright blue ever) and Zoya Maisie.  My nails look like little water scenes.  Love might be an understatement for this mani.  Baker Street has the most perfect formula ever.  Two super easy coats and it was flawless.  Maisie is a blue/green flakie in a translucent blue base.  I used one coat of Maisie.

Sun
The shade pictures came out so much better.  It was so hard to capture any of the blue/green shift of the flakies.  I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.  Feel free to stop by my facebook page and share your mani pics with me.

Barielle Do Unto Others & Buddha-ful

Hi there my lovelies!  Today I have a combo that while the pictures are okay, real life is much better.  This is two coats of Barielle Do Unto Others.  This gorgeous aqua/turquoise color is somewhere in between a jelly and a cream.  The formula couldn't have been any easier to use.  I had zero clean up with Do Unto Others.  Next I added a layer of Barielle Buddha-ful on top.  I can't claim this idea.  I saw it on another blog but can't for the life of me remember which one.  So thank you to the blogger that wore it first.  Buddha-ful is a super sheer, milky pink flakie.  I can't wait to try it over a bright pink.

I hope you like today's combo.  What is your favorite Barielle shade?  You can check them out at Barielle.com.  Have a great day!

*Do Unto Others was sent to me by the PR company.  I purchased Buddha-ful myself*

Deborah Lippmann Sweet Dreams

Hey Everyone!  Today I've scheduled a post for you because when this goes up I will be having a CT scan of my brain.  We're tying to figure out what's causing the chronic, daily headaches as well as a few other things.  Anyhow, today's polish is a gorgeous pink jelly with flakies.  This is the first flakie that I've put on and been instantly in love with.  Normally it takes me a bit to warm up to them.  This is three coats.  I had read that some thought the formula of Sweet Dreams was super thick and a pain.  I'm happy to say that was not the case for me.  Yes it is a tad thicker than regular polish but most flakies are.  The top picture shows VNL but honestly in real life you couldn't really see it.  The two shade pictures show how it looked most of the time.  I didn't used to like pinks much but lately I just can't get enough of them.

I only own two DL's, this and Mermaids Dream.  What's your favorite Lippmann?  I hope you all have a great Thursday.

China Glaze Smoke and Ashes

First I should say that I am a huge Hunger Games fan. I've read the trilogy a few times and just love it. So when it was announced that China Glaze was doing a Hunger Games collection I knew I'd have to have most of them. Today I have Smoke and Ashes to show you. It is an amazing black glass fleck with blue/green shimmer in the right light. The formula was outstanding as well. Two coats made it perfect. You might be able to get away with one thicker coat if you are careful. I added Luxe and Lush, a mylar flakie, to the accent finger. Love! I don't really know that my photos are doing this polish justice but trust me, it is gorgeous. Check it out!

This last photo was taken in the sun. The others were in the shade. I honestly liked how this looked in the shade better.

So have you read the Hunger Games? If you have, do you have any other books to recommend that I may like just as much? Can't wait to show you guys the rest that I've picked up. Have a great day!

Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed

Today I have the gorgeous Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed. I'm so happy to have this polish. When trying to decide what color to layer TS over I really wanted something that would keep it as close to the bottle color as possible. I have nail wheels that I try different combinations out on. To go with this I have a notebook that I write down all the combos in so I won't forget what they are. I can't be the only one doing this right? Okay maybe I am. So I tried Toxic Seaweed over Sinful Colors Kissy, Cult Nails Let Me Fly and Finger Paints Scenery Greenery. The Finger Paints got me closest to the bottle color on TS. It did look really neat over Kissy as well. Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think. This is two coats of Scenery Greenery and two coats of Toxic Seaweed.

By the way, if you see anything that looks kinda foggy or blue on my nails it's because I dropped my bottle of Butter London Victoriana on the patio. I didn't realize it was on my nails until half way though taking pictures. I very carefully used some remover to clean it off and reapplied topcoat to save my mani.

Do you see all those pretty coppery flakies in there? Love love love! Maria of Cult Nails mentioned that Toxic Seaweed may be limited edition due to trouble sourcing ingredients so head over and check it out soon.

Have a great Saturday!

Color Club Blue-topia and some Finger Paints flakies

Good morning!
Apparently it's flaky week here at My Life in Polish and no one told me. As I was writing this up I realized all my posts this week have featured flakies. Seems like they are so much easier to get all of a sudden. Anyway, Color Club Blue-topia is an awsome blue polish. It went on in two easy coats. Sorry I don't have pictures of it by itself because I did my nails at night. On top of Blue-topia I layered one coat of Finger Paints Motley and Flecked. Now this wasn't my idea but when I saw in on facebook I knew I had to try it out.

Check out this awesomeness!

I'm so in love with this! I can't wait to try these same two flakies over a green. Maybe Artsy, Crafty from the same Color Club collection. Have you tried any of the FP flakies yet? What do you think?

Until next time,
Sara

Cult Nails Let Me Fly and Clairvoyant

Good morning! Today I have the amazing combo of Cult Nails Let Me Fly and Clairvoyant (aka Unicorn Puke). I love, love, love this mani. Let Me Fly is a gorgeous teal with a very pretty shimmer. It went on in two effortless coats. Just like we've all come to expect from Cult Nails.

Isn't that just amazing? Then to make it even better I added a coat of Cult Nails Clairvoyant. I'm sure you've all heard of Unicorn Puke. This is the same polish with a different name. It has multi-colored flakies in a purple tinted base. So pretty I just want to put in on everything!

Told you it was amazing! I don't even have the proper words to describe this. On a funny note, when I was trying this out on a nail wheel, I showed my husband and he said "That looks like unicorns". I know my husband has never heard of Unicorn Puke so it made me laugh.

Have a great day!

China Glaze Kinetic Candy and Essie Shine of the Times

Hi Lovelies,

I recently took a trip to my favorite nail supply store and he had a display of the new China Glaze Electro Pop collection. I only picked up one, Kinetic Candy. The only other one I considered was Electric Beat but my sister bought it so I figure I can just use hers. I had trouble with the formula on this one. It was weirdly streaky and didn't want to level out. I wasn't too worried though because I knew I was going to layer Essie Shine of the Times on top. Such an amazing combo! I loved it. The swatch of Kinetic Candy is two coats with no topcoat. Cleanup wasn't great because I knew I wasn't done yet.

Pretty color but see all that streaking.

I will definitely have to give this color another shot. Maybe it was just me. I think the right topcoat may have leveled it all out. I love Seche Vite for that reason but I hate all the shrinkage it gives. What is your favorite topcoat?

Take care,
Sara

China Glaze Peace on Earth

Hi All,

Today I have China Glaze Peace on Earth with Sally Hansen Glass Slipper. I picked up Peace on Earth last year when my polish obsession was just getting into full swing. It was on clearance at Sally's so I said why not. I love it! Can't believe I took so long to wear it. Sorry about the dry skin around my nails. I'm working on it I swear!

You can't really see the flakies in this last sun picture but it gives a really good idea of the color of Peace on Earth.

What is your favorite remedy to keep the skin around your nails from looking so dry? I live in AZ but still have winter skin dryness.

Take care,
Sara

Joe Fresh Peacock and Essie As Gold as it Gets

I got my first Canadian nail mail and couldn't be more excited. I got Joe Fresh Peacock and Twilight. I also received Gosh Ocean and Green Dragon. They are all amazing. Today I'm going to show you Peacock with a layer of Essie As Gold as it Gets. Total stunner! So far this is the only Luxeffects I have picked up but I've been eyeballing two others.

Check out the pictures! There are a ton. Sorry about the less than stellar clean up. It's been weirdly cloudy here and I was trying to hurry to catch at least a little sun. All the pictures are outside with cloudy sun (I know, that doesn't really make sense, just go with it).

Here is a picture of Peacock by itself. So amazing! Can't wait to wear this as a pedi color!

What do you think of my first Canadian polish? Are there any other Joe's I must own?

Have a great day!
